CIB,CAS and CPP Online Signed The Agreement for Cooperation on Rice Variety Technology Innovation and Transfer

On the morning of October 14, 2020, Chengdu Institute of Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CIB,CAS) and Charoen Pokphand Produce Co., Ltd. (CPP) of Charoen Pokphand Group (CP Group) held an online international conference and signed the The Agreement for Cooperation on Rice Variety Technology Innovation and Transfer. Director Jiang Yiqi, Executive Chen Haitao and Zhao Fangfang of the Asian-African Division of the Bureau of International Cooperation Chinese Academy of Sciences attended the meeting online in Beijing. Attendees at the scene of the CIB,CAS including Wu Ning (Director General of CIB,CAS), Chen Huai (Director of Science and Technology Department) , Tan Zhouliang (Director of Environmental Governance and Food Safety Center) , Wang Tao (Director of the Project), Ailikun (Assistant Executive Director) from the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO), Wang Junwei (Executive Director) and Li Siyun (Senior Executive) from CAS Innovation Cooperation Center (Bangkok), and Foreign Affairs Director Tang Qin, Associate Professor Tu Shengbin of CIB,CAS, etc.. Participants attended the meeting at CP Group in Bangkok included the Chief Operating Officer Mr. Sayan Hongsa and Executive Vice President Dr. Sadawud Koonmane.

During the meeting, Director General Wu Ning introduced CIB,CAS and its international cooperation in agricultural science and technology. Executive Vice President Sadawud Koonmane introduced the general situation of CPP, reviewed the cooperation process with CIB,CAS in the field of rice variety test and demonstration, and introduced in detail and fully affirmed the outstanding performance of ‘B45’ rice variety in its multi-point test and evaluation over the years. Director Jiang Yiqi introduced the general situation and progress of the international cooperation of the Bureau of International Cooperation Chinese Academy of Sciences and said that he would continue to support the China-Thailand rice cooperation project. Assistant Executive Director Ailikun introduced the overview and progress of ANSO and fully recognized the achievements made in international cooperation by the Alliance of International Science Organizations in the Belt and Road Region on Rice & Wheat Variety Technology Innovation and Transfer (ANSO-RWIT), which was established under the leadership of CIB,CAS. Executive Director Wang Junwei introduced the progress of the CAS Innovation Cooperation Center (Bangkok) cooperation in the transfer and transformation of high-tech achievements between China and Thailand, and indicated that he would strongly support the further cooperation between CIB,CAS and CPP. At last, Director General Wu Ning and Executive Vice President Sadawud Koonmane signed the The Agreement for Cooperation on Rice Variety Technology Innovation and Transfer on behalf of both sides, and made the final summary speech. They hope that the two sides will further strengthen cooperation and achieve more internationally visible results.

According to the agreement, CIB,CAS will grant the right of use of this variety to CPP for promotion, application and market development in Southeast and South Asia ‘Belt and Road’ countries. The signing of this agreement is the result of long-term and strong support from the Bureau of International Cooperation Chinese Academy of Sciences and ANSO, the essence of 13 years of international cooperation between CIB,CAS and CP Group, and also a breakthrough in the transformation of rice variety technology achievements of CAS in the ‘Belt and Road’ countries.
