The 1st International UHWB Summer School was held successfully

The Urban Environmental Health Alliance

The 1st International UHWB Summer School was held successfully during July 25 to July 30. It was co-organized by International Science Council (ISC)-Urban Health and Wellbeing Programme (UHWB), the Institute of Urban Environment (IUE), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO). There are more than 4000 views from 30 countries all over the world, including China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, India, Pakistan, Kenya, etc. The summer school was moderated by Prof. Franz Gatzweiler, Executive Director of UHWB. Prof. Yong-Guan Zhu, Academician of CAS and Prof. Jinghua Cao, Executive Director of ANSO Secretariat were invited to the opening ceremony. 



Firstly, Prof. Zhu welcomed all participants from home and abroad on behalf of IUE and gave a brief introduction of IUE’s background including its cooperation with ANSO and ISC. He emphasized the urban development related to eco-health and human health closely. This summer school will be helpful to enhance the international cooperation in the field of urban environment. 

Prof. Cao introduced the background, visions and networks of ANSO. He thought this summer school provided learning opportunities and hoped it could contribute to eco-environment and human civilization by discussing the connectedness between urban health and ecological civilization. 

There were 11 lectures totally. Members of the UHWB’s scientific committee and its global network partners were invited to share their knowledge and practice on the topic of “A Complexity- and Institutional Economics perspective on Ecological Civilization” , “Ecological Civilization and the practice of Ecosystem Products in China”, “Creating Healthy Places – a design case study”, “Planetary health”, etc. The presenters are the professors and experts from renowned universities at home and abroad, such as University of California, Berkeley, Lancaster University, Monash Sustainable Development Institute, Zhejiang University, etc. With this summer school, participants had an in-depth understanding of professional cutting-edge knowledge related to urban health and ecological civilization from different fields and perspectives.
