1 International Networking and Collaboration under the Framework of ANSO

ANSO currently has 86 member & preliminary member organizations, including national academies, research agencies, universities and international organizations, spanning 54 countries across the major continents of the world. Joining ANSO gives the member organization a unique platform to connect with the other ANSO members and explore bilateral and multilateral collaboration opportunities.


2 Application for ANSO Programs

ANSO members are eligible to participate in various kinds of ANSO programs, including:


2.1 Scholarship Program

  • The CAS-ANSO Scholarship Program aims to promote regional and global capacity building in the fields of science and technology.
  • It provides financial support for up to 400 post-graduate students (including Master’s and PhD candidates) from across the world to pursue postgraduate studies at UCAS or USTC in China on a yearly basis.
  • ANSO members are encouraged to recommend outstanding candidate(s) for this prestigious Scholarship.

2.2 Fellowship Program

  • The CAS-ANSO Fellowship Program is set up by CAS and ANSO in order to boost in-depth scientific exchanges and concrete collaborations based on joint research projects.
  • It enables international scientists, scholars or managerial staff from the Global South to pay short-term academic visits to CAS-affiliated institutes and/or universities (UCAS/USTC) for a certain period, flexible from 1 week to 6 months. It provides over 70 fellowships annually.

  • ANSO members are encouraged to take advantage of this unique program.

2.3 Conference Program

  • The CAS-ANSO Conference Program provides networking opportunities for innovative scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs and decision-makers from the Belt and Road regions. It supports ANSO members to organize international scientific conferences (seminars, workshops, forums, and so on) focusing on the theme of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) for Sustainable Development.
  • Only ANSO members are eligible to apply.

2.4 Co-funding Research Program

  • The CAS-ANSO Co-funding Research Program aims to explore a co-funding mechanism between CAS and the other ANSO member organizations to jointly support scientific and/or technological research collaborations for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN, with a particular focus on promoting the sustainable development of the B&R regions.
  • The total research grant from ANSO to the leading collaborator for each co-funding research project is approximately USD150K, and the leading collaborator (an ANSO Member or ANSO Member-recommended prestigious organization of the Member country) is required to provide a minimum match-fund and/or in-kind contributions to making the co-funding project a real success.

Eligibility criteria to become an ANSO member

According to the ANSO Statutes, eligible for membership of ANSO are national, regional or international scientific organizations and academies, especially those in the Belt and Road region.


How to become an ANSO member

Application for ANSO membership may be submitted at any time of the year. It shall be in writing and in English, providing true, accurate and complete information regarding the mission, structure, major programs and activities of the applying organization, as well as a clear statement of reasons /motivations for joining ANSO. The applying organization should acknowledge and explicitly endorse the ANSO Statutes.

Membership applications must be reviewed and acknowledged by the Governing Board before they are submitted to the General Assembly for final decision-making or approval.


Obligations of ANSO members
  • ANSO Members shall explicitly endorse the ANSO Statutes.
  • The Heads or Legal Representatives of ANSO members are obliged to attend the ANSO General Assembly, which is held biennially, and be actively engaged in major decision-making process for ANSO’s development.
  • Contributions, such as donations or annual dues are welcome.
