Meeting of ANSO Microbiology Data Center Held in Shenzhen

On 1 November 2023, the Meeting of the ANSO Microbiology Data Center was held in Shenzhen, China.

Jinghua Cao, Executive Director of the ANSO Secretariat, delivered a welcome remark, and Juncai Ma, Director of the National Microbiology Data Center, chaired the meeting and gave a keynote report. Philippe Desmeth, International Cooperation Officer of Belgium Culture Collection of Microorganisms (BCCM) and former President of World Federation of Culture Collections (WFCC), Lily Eurwilaich, Assistant Executive Director of National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC) under the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Thailand, Nelson Lima, MIRRI-PT National Node Coordinator, Director of Biological Engineering Centre of University of Minho, Portugal, and former President of Europe Culture Collections of Organization (ECCO), and Cledir Santos, Professor at University of La Frontera, Chile, gave keynote speeches. 

Prof. Jinghua Cao stated that the ANSO Microbiology Data Center will achieve substantial research and cooperation and make contributions to capacity-building, sustainable economic and social development to relevant countries. Dr. Juncai Ma introduced the future work plan of the ANSO Microbiology Data Center.

In this meeting, the Declaration on Microbial Resources Data Sharing and Biotechnology Innovation was discussed and released by the ANSO Microbiology Data Center. According to the Declaration, the Center should work with the Belt and Road countries, through establishment of a comprehensive big data platform, national and regional nodes, personnel exchange, and training courses, to facilitate the sharing of microbial and information resources, serve related countries, enhance the research and development capacity for microbial resources, and promote biotechnology development and social progress. The regional cooperation will be based on the Belt and Road Initiative and will gradually form a regional cooperation based on the point by point approach.
