The 7th International Conference on Resources, Environment and Regional Sustainable Development in Northeast Asia was successfully held on 21-23 October 2025 in Vladivostok, Russia. The event was co-organized by the Northeast Institute of Geography and Agroecology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IGA, CAS) and the Pacific Geographical Institute (PGI) of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (FEB, RAS), with financial support from the CAS-ANSO Conference Program (CAS-ANSO-C2A-2024-05).

During the opening ceremony, Prof. Jiang Ming, Director of IGA, and representatives from Russian academic institutes delivered addresses. They reviewed the productive outcomes of Sino-Russian scientific cooperation over the past five years and expressed sincere gratitude for ANSO’s sustained support for this conference series. Prof. Kirill Ganzei, Corresponding Member of RAS and Director of PGI, highlighted ANSO’s vital role in fostering regional development and facilitating exchanges, especially those among young scientists. He reaffirmed the commitment to deepen collaboration within the ANSO framework to advance joint research and capacity building in ecology and sustainable development for Northeast Asia.

The conference centered on critical themes including transboundary water management, socio-economic development, and climate change response. It brought together over 100 scientists, researchers, and nature reserve managers from China, Russia, Mongolia, and the Republic of Korea, with more than 50 experts invited to share their research findings and engage in in-depth dialogues on these pressing regional issues.

Building on the fruitful exchanges, participants exchanged insights, shared valuable information, and further fostered mutual understanding around the core topics, and expressed eagerness to deepen cooperation under the ANSO framework. This support not only enhanced the conference’s impact but also advanced ANSO’s core mission: facilitating cross-border scientific collaboration, empowering early-career researchers, and mobilizing collective efforts to tackle shared regional and global challenges.

Since first held in 2014, the conference series has been successively hosted in China and Russia, evolving into a widely recognized platform for advancing academic exchanges, regional development dialogues, and cross-border ecological protection research in Northeast Asia. It continues to play a positive role in promoting regional sustainable development, while providing valuable support for ANSO’s vision through enhanced international cooperation and knowledge-sharing.
