ANSO Attended the WNMBR Steering Committee Meeting and the Seventh Mountain Partnership (MP) Global Meeting

On 23–24 March, the Steering Committee Meeting of the World Network of Mountain Biosphere Reserves (WNMBR) was held at the Montseny Biosphere Reserve in Spain. The meeting was attended by a total of 15 participants, including representatives from UNESCO, the United Nations University (UNU), the Ministry of Environment of Spain, Mountain Research Initiative (MRI), the WNMBR Technical Support Secretariat, as well as mountain research experts from Switzerland, Austria, the United Kingdom, Germany and other countries. YI Zhijun, Deputy Director of the Secretariat of the Alliance of National and International Science Organizations for the Belt and Road Regions (ANSO), attended the meeting upon invitation as a member of the Steering Committee, marking his second participation in this strategic meeting since 2023 in Spain.


Participants discussed the priority areas of the WNMBR Strategic Framework and Action Plan (2026–2035), developed the Phase 2 roadmap for the Global Change Research Strategy in Mountain Regions (GLOCHAMORE), identify funding resources and governance models, and established practical and feasible goals for the long-term development of the Network that meet the needs of mountain biosphere reserves.



The 7th Global Meeting of the Mountain Partnership (MP) took place in Andorra on 26–28 March, with members of the WNMBR Steering Committee participating in and organizing a side event on mountain biosphere reserves. Held every four years, the MP serves as a major platform advancing the implementation of the UN Mountain Agenda. The opening ceremony and high-level roundtable discussion were attended by Amina J. Mohammed, UN Deputy Secretary-General; Wu Zhiming, Assistant Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO); Arnold Kreilhuber, UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Regional Representative for Europe; as well as foreign ministers or ambassadors from Italy, Andorra and other countries. The meeting exchanged challenges and solutions for mountain regions in sustainable tourism, climate adaptation, community development, ecosystem conservation, partnership building, communication and etc., adopted the Mountain Partnership Communication Strategy (2026–2030), and launched the Andorra Declaration, providing guidance for future collaborative actions in mountain regions.
